The Betrayal of Fafnir

Long ago, in the time of Ingens, and during the Grilarstór War, The giants were winning. Despite their arcane bodies and mastery over magic, the dragon suffered one flaw against the Giants, They were divided whilst the giants fought in unity. The dragons were being beaten back, and their forces the Lizardfolk had run free, while the Giant onslaught pushed onwards. Had the unity of the giants continued to remain stern, the world today would be no doubt under their control, however, such things were not meant to be.   Amidst the war, deep in the mountain forges of the Fire Giants, a Dervern grew weary of his servitude. Sure the Giants were great masters and didn’t slave the Dervern in ways that the Dragons slaved the Lizardfolk, but the Dervern desired treasure, he wanted to be the owner, not owned. And so, one day, whilst the giants drank in joy over the apparent outcome of the war, the Dervern snuck away from his mountain, and entered the territory of the Dragon Queen Rydhyl, and struck a deal with her. He wanted wealth unimaginable and was willing to sell the secrets of the Giants to get it.   With the new knowledge in hand, the dragons were better capable of defending themselves from the giant's raids, whilst they disguised their members as Giants themselves and started to break their Unity from the inside. This ultimately worked for the dragons and brought about a stalemate, as by the end of the war both sides had been so demolished that they retreated into their territories and became the normal dragons and giants we know today.   The Dervern however. He was discovered with his coveted gold, and the giants cast him from their cultures and cursed him for his greed to show to the world around him. He became Fafnir, the first Deep Dragon.
