Burial Rites of the Vind

When a Vind Warrior, Hero, or a Vind of High Standing dies, they will be buried in a traditional Vind Burial, with the Vind being buried with their finest armor, some of their earthly possessions, usually jewels, gold, and an ornate sword, a couple sacrificial animals, and a boat, for which all other items, and copses are placed inside.

History

As a powerful naval force, whose culture was enriched through piracy and sea trade, the idea of owning a naval vessal was shown as a form of wealth and power amidst the Vind of the North.   Therefore, when a powerful or rich member of the Vind society passed on, it became custome to either burn them on a floating pyre (often floatin on a boat) or, eventually, be buried within the vessal along with their wealth, so that when the great war of the worlds, upon the twilight of the world, they could sail their boats into battle against the enemies of their gods.   Eventually as time went on, this exceeded its original purpose and became nothing more than a status symbol, with family mass graves, being signified with a layout of stones mimicing the appearance of a boat being placed above the graves.

Execution

Heroes, Warriors, and the Elite

For those of fame, prominence, and wealth, a Vind grand burial was held, with a gathering of families, friends, rivals, and others who wished to witness the burial of these legendary figures. During the ceremony, servant or family members would physically lift the boat to the site, carrying it across land until they reached a pre dug hole. Once at the site of the burial, they would lower in the boat, and another set of family members (Usually the children of the deceased) would carry the corpse, draped in his best armor, and other jewels, necklaces, rings, and bracelets, and carry them onto the boat, where they would lay them down.   Then, other attendees would bring aboard treasures for the departed, placing them alongside the corpse, or around the edge of the boat. Finally, after all the gifts were placed, a priest, or Vind of a similar positions, such as a druid or a witch, would lay an ornate blade beside the deceased, say a prayer for their soul, and finish the departed's tenants as the wished them on a safe voyage to the great hall, before allowing all gathered to start the actual burial.

Commoner Families, and the Lower Class

For families incapable of the wealth and resources requied for such extravagant burials, they would designate plots dedicated to their families that would act as mass graves over generations, buring their deceased into the hill with a couple items, and marking the grave site with a collection of stones places in teh shape of a boat.
