The Land's Beginning

In time before time, when the land was barren and the seas empty, Mother was already old.   Our land was given to her in the twilight of her life, and although she treasures us, she cannot constantly watch us as some gods do. She sleeps. She dreams.   Through Mother's dreams, life flows into our world. This song was passed down eight hundred and seventeen generations, from a Motherborne wildling who heard her voice and saw patterns in feylights.   The feylights are the oldest of Mother's children. When she was given our land and when she brought forth plants and mountains onto it, she knew she would not be able to care for us as we should be cared for. Because of that she created the feylights to be her eyes and ears. Through them, all is recorded and passed to Mother. Feylights are nearly impossible to kill, nearly impossible to corrupt, and doing either would be blinding Mother to us. Feylights taking an interest in someone is a strong compliment, for your actions will be seen by Mother herself when next she wakes.   Whenever that is.   The second of Mother's children are the high elementals - ageless, timeless beings that move through our world and leave tracks of thick, pure magic. They are nearly as soulless as the feylights, though, moving only on basest instinct and barely reacting to the world as they shape it. They are to be respected, but they are not thinking beings.   The third of Mother's children are the sableine. Through them, she enabled us all to thrive. The sableine are the glue to our societies, enabling the rest of Mother's future children to spread their seed far and wide and flourish from only a few Motherborn.
