Feylights

Mother's first children.
Feylights appear as glowing multicolored lights the size of a fist. Their colors change frequently and sometimes rapidly.
Feylights were the first beings created by the Mother, and they function as her eyes and ears. Feylights record everything around themselves, and if one knows how to interpret their blinking one can ask questions about what has happened and be answered. Communicating with feylights is incredibly difficult, though, as meaning is conveyed not only by hue but also saturation, brightness, and color duration. There are only a few races with color vision good enough to even maybe understand feylights.
It is possible to kill feylights even though they're barely mortal. To do this, one must first get a feylight alone, as they share magic freely between any nearby individuals. Then, one must completely drain a feylight of its magic. This takes some doing, as the little things are surprisingly potent. Once drained, what's left behind is a tiny heart of motherviolet stone, and if the heart is crushed the feylight will not recover.
Feylights reproduce very rarely. When they do, the new light is held in a small enclosed space with at least two and up to five other lights. The other lights spend up to a week imparting all of their knowledge to the new feylight, going all the way back to the birth of their kind. Interrupting or sabotaging this ritual passing of knowledge can create a flawed feylight. If one feylight disagrees with facts other feylights agree on, they will surround the flawed one and 'reprogram' it.
Feylights are universally seen as good luck among mother's children, and harming them is absolutely forbidden.
