Raaha

Raaha is the largest city in the Rahim Wastes; although the Rahiman don't have a cohesive nation, it is for all intents and purposes the capital of the desert peoples. It was once a gathering point for the disparate tribes of Rahim Centaur and Gnolls to come together and trade and arrange marriages. Until recently it was cut off from the world by the Burning Sands. Now, its reach and influence has grown as intrepid adventurers and merchants brave the Rahim wastes for the rare treasures that can only be found or produced along the Rahim River Basin.   Although nearly all settlements in the Rahim Wastes are located in the Rahim River Basin, Raaha is blessed with truly lush lands in an expansive flood basin. Although flooding occasionally wipes out the farms around the town, it's been quick to rebuild because the main city is located on a a broad, low hill that has so far avoided most of the flood damages. As the greenest town along the river, Raaha has long been a destination for resettlement and visitation.   No one knows how long the area has been settled, but the town has been mostly plain sandstone until recently. After the Rahim River Valley was connected to the rest of the world, though, caravans have been bringing precious stones and metals to trade for exotic luxuries, such as paper and varanus eggs. The town has since grown, remodeling many of its civic and religious buildings into glorious works of silver, gold, marble, and lapis lazuli.   Although small by non-desert standards, Raaha is a metropolis in the region, easily having more residents that the rest of the settlements combined. Most of the residents are locals, but some intrepid and curious foreigners have decided to settle in the Jewel of the Rahim. And with all the trade coming in, Raaha is quickly becoming one of the richest towns in the world, too. Great temples, banks, and merchant manors are constantly being built, and savvy businessmen are investing heavily into the desert boom town.
