Gruul
Basic Information
Anatomy
Standing upwards of 8m in height, the Grull are by far the largest sapient race to have walked the land of Mordania. Living on the shores or the ocean floors, the Gruul spent the majority of their time immersed in water - this is because their skin was prone to drying out and becoming irritated. Varying across a wide spectrum of colours, their complexions varied across greyish tones from blues to greens to a delicate shade of pink. Gruul hides were shark-like; rough and capable of retaining water well.
Unlike their truly amphibious cousins the Anguil, the Gruul were more thoroughly adapted to swimming, having both fins and gills meaning they can hunt ocean fish in deep water without any need to return to land. This adaptation, however, requires them to be immersed in water or mud at least once daily to stave off skin irritation and dehydration.
Genetics and Reproduction
Gruul mated for life, and came ashore to give birth. Gruul newborns' gills would only begin to function after two days - during which both parents remain on the coastline to protect and provide for their child.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The Gruul had an exceptional sense of smell while in the water, able to find virtually anything with residue for a mile around. On land, however, their olfactory system did not function.
