Anguil
Basic Information
Anatomy
Truly amphibious, the Anguil are the only sapient race truly capable of surviving indefinitely both on land and underwater. They possess two relatively small sets of gills on the lower neck and outer shoulders which allow for air filtration underwater, these gills share lungs with a trachea for air breathing. Due to the relative low efficiency of their gills, Anguil may struggle to breathe underwater with impurities or under high pressure. Certain adapted variants such as the Rare Deepwater Anguil are better adapted to underwater permanence.
Most Anguil are not tall, averaging slightly below the norm while being distinctly stocky. Large muscles, adapted for grappling and drowning are spread across their body. Anguil necks are thick and hunched and adapted for biting. With thick stocky limbs, they are capable of shifting heavy weights and have impressive physical stamina. In terms of gripping strength, Anguil are unmatched, adapted for hunting by gripping and drowning prey.
Possessing specially shaped teeth and devoted musculature, a bite from an Anguil is deadly. Sawbladed and inward-curved, the teeth cut through flesh and muscle readily, anchoring into and immobilising whatever they bite. Anguil jaws are then capable of clamping shut and locking, deadly when combined with a full-body grapple in water. Many variants have different teeth, ranging from long thin needles to thick carnivore slicing fangs.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Anguil have a unique organ that allows for electrogenesis - the ability to generate an electric charge. While this ability is mostly known for its use defensively and in hunting as a weapon, it also provides the Anguil with the ability to effectively detect mass in water through electrolocation. By creating a momentary electrical current and detecting its fluctuations, the Angul is able to determine locations, sizes and conductive qualities of objects and creatures in the water. This ability works with a much smaller range in air.
