The Tale of Maghran the Foul

During the Blessed Age, Dragons were numerous and powerful. They were believed to be the first creations of the gods, living embodiments of power. One such dragon was Maghran,a young shadow drake with a mind for deception. The legend goes that Maghran, in his youth, had a chance encounter with a dark and demented warrior whose war was long over. Maghran fancied the warriors weapon, a sword that emanated shadow in much the way Maghran did. The young shadow drake could tell that the sword, by its very nature, was a wicked weapon. Maghran decided he must have the weapon, but did not tell this vile warrior his true motive. Instead, he offered his hospitality, inviting the dark warrior into his home, a large cavern found deep in the mountains. He promised the warrior fine gems and gold if he could cross the threshold of the mountains into his cave. The dark warrior, intrigued by the idea, asked Maghran what a dragon had to gain by giving away his gold. “Nothing.” At this, Maghran flew off, leaving the Dark warrior with his dilemma. Sure enough, over mountains and valleys the warrior traveled, but when he reached the cave, tired and drained from his journey, Maghran was not there. Instead, resting in this cavern was a great Blue Dragon, the Sapphire Queen of the Sky, a beast known to be so large her wings blotted out the sun. Angered by this intrusion, the Sapphire Queen attacked the Dark Warrior, killing him on sight. The light of her breathe created a shadow behind the warriors frame, and from it Maghran sprung to retrieve the weapon, returning to the shadow as quickly as he’d came. For as much of a trickster as he was, this would not be the end of Maghran’s actions in common legend.
