Goron

Basic Information

Anatomy

Gorons are almost fully formed from rocks and therefore lack a noticeable skeletal structure. They have the same number of limbs as the other Hyrulean species. Their bodies are massive, but they're usually "top-heavy" and have small legs.

Genetics and Reproduction

Gorons bud asexually from their parents. If fostered properly (a process that takes about three years of dedicated work), a piece of petrified matter chipped away from the parent will become a child.

Growth Rate & Stages

A Goron's growth is reliant on their consumption of properly nutritional rocks. Gorons grow consistently for the first 300~350 years of their lives, but once they each older ages, they simply grow less hungry and slowly cease to eat. They lose mass until they return to the size they were first created and peacefully pass away.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Gorons are petrivorous, consuming specialized sedimentary rocks. Igneous and metamorphose rocks taste "burnt" and "stale" respectively.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Gorons' senses of touch are fairly numbed compared to other species, allowing them to work in extremely hot environments without any pain. However, they are very perceptive of even the most minor of tremors in the earth.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Gorons don't typically use surnames, and instead go by "[given name] of [parent's name].

Gender Ideals

Most Gorons go by the Hylian language equivalent of he/him pronouns and would identify themselves as male if asked. They refer to each other as brothers, fathers, sons, etc. Many across Hyrule see them as the epitome of strength, toughness, and masculinity.
However, historically, the Gorons did not have a concept of gender, and what little is known about their primordial language does not make a distinction of gender in any way. No Gorons have any biological signifiers of sex in either/any direction. The concept of Gorons as male came around after prolonged exchange with the rest of Hyrulean culture.
In the modern era, some Gorons go by the Hylian language equivalent of they/them pronouns. This is only slightly more common than non-Gorons who go by they/them pronouns.

Relationship Ideals

Gorons do not typically form romantic relationships of any kind. However, familial and platonic relationships are considered vital to a well-lived life, and many Gorons live with 1 to 3 other Goron peers (not counting any children). It is also typical for Goron siblings to stay close their entire lives.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Deceased Gorons are laid to rest by having their remains sunk into the Death Mountain Caldera. In this way, they become a part of the living magma blood of the mountain that supports the life of all Gorons.
