On this day, the portals that had created metropolitan wonders and grew commerce across the world, collapsed and closed, seemingly forever.

To most of the world, it was as pleasant a day as any. Sure there was conflict in a corner of the world, but that was not a concern of the common folk. Only those in the portal cities had any reason to be concerned. They feared that a Necromancers army would close on one of these metropolitan wonders and inconvenience them. This fear drove a small group to action. They sealed off the portals, intending to re-open them in the future. However, when the portals were sealed shut, they stayed shut.
