Something must have happened somewhere. Nothing else could explain why so many little things all seemed to happen on the same day at the same time. Little things that later could be traced back to a singular influence... Magic.

On this day a pulse seemed to flow over the earth. Most people didn't notice it, to many it felt like a wave of warmth, and for a small few something awoke in them. What happened is that somewhere in the world a hole was made in the barrier between Home and Earth. The hole was made neatly and with great care. It might have been done such that nobody noticed and nothing changed, but the hole was closed suddenly and violently. This sent a ripple across the boundary that weakened it and began a slow drip feed of magic into Earth. It wasn't enough to summon demons or call down lightning, but it was enough to awaken dormant blood. Animals descended from beings of Home begin to act more intelligently. People with the right combination of genes suddenly feel smarter, faster, stronger. Though very few people will remember the moment the hole collapsed, there's no denying that this was the beginning of everything to come.
