Dangers down below

Here, deep in the sea, the water was colder and darker than he was used to, close to the surface.  The only thing just as bright as the waters above, is the city simply called Glow. He was already wearing those special goggles to protect his eyes to the exesive light all around. But it also made him able to see better in this dark deep water.    It made him feel more sensitive. Sensitive to others passing by, airbubbles swirling past, ... He even thought he could feel small streams of water flowing through the crowd. Or more accurately, where the crowd was not just crashing through the streams of water. He mostly felt it at the tips of his fingers and at the soles of his feet, where his weak skin remained exposed the most. He had found ways to cover his weak and fragile skin, but for his hands and feet, he had yet to find a way.   Suddenly he felt something that resembled a strong shockwave through the water. Only the last remains of one however, the outer edge of it, so to speak. It must have taken place even deeper down those dark waters, because only the soles of his feet had felt it, it did not seem strong enough to even reach his fingertips, hanging loosely around his hips.   He was about to look down with his special goggles on, when he caught a flash of color in the corner of his eye. Since most of them expressed emotion and intonation with colors, that wasn't so strange. It was the color itself that was the interesting part. It was the very same beautiful red color he remebered seeing a very vivid sunset once. It was gorgeous. And so was she, the girl using those very vivid reds and orange tones. They were not very common, but he didn't care, he wanted to know more about her.  He started swimming toward her, but shockwaves were thrust through the water, faster and faster, changing direction rapidly inbetween.   All present in the city of Glow, scattered, flashing in panicked colors, when suddenly a gigantic watersnake plowed through the crowd. He headed straight for the city, twitsting and curling his body around, slamming several passersby against others or even rocks and buildings. In his panic, he only saw one thing, the sunset red, that now was showing a cascade of yellows through orange all the way to deep dark red and all the way back again. She was clearly in a panic as well and swam for her life. He swam after her, oblivious to anything and anyone else.   They found shelter near a dark rockformation nearby. She, trying to calm herself down, so she would not be a bright 'snacktime' beacon to the serpent. He, had stopped a little distance further, careful as not to damage his skin on the rocks that were to be their shelter. Agitation and the resulting light flashes might signal 'here's your meal', but blood in the water would attract EVERY predator nearby, no matter if they knew exactly where this prey was located or not.  It would be far worse.  For both of them.   She swam over to him and stopped right in front, almost touching his face with hers. Up close like this, he could see her eyes very clearly. He peered down those beautiful orbs, wishing this moment would never end. She backed up again, clearly trying to suppress her agitation, which was visible through the sporadic nature of the 'sparks' of color breaking through on her skin. "How can you stay so calm?" she asked.   He might have loved the sound of her voice, even tried to savor it. Were it not that at the exact same moment she started asking her question, he felt the rapid compression of water pressing against the soles of his feet. One quick look down confirmed it and his reflexes took over. He pushed her aside, hard. The momentum pushing him the other way. It was all that saved both of them from the giant teeth of the serpent that had come barreling up from the deep, straight at them. Because of the sudden push, she had gotten fully out of range from those murderous blades. He however was so lucky, he had been partially caught between its teeth, being dragged along, down towards the deep dark and even higher pressure. Unfortunately for the sea serpent, he was not so ordinary. While dragging him with and between such sharp teeth, the straps snapped loose, that held several shells and minerals and other reflecting items in place on his chest and arms. Inadvertently the serpent had stripped him bare to his weak soft skin he had been protecting all this time. Now, freed this way, he could swim back up, unharmed, though very chilled by the temperature of the water.   When she saw him swim back up again, she couldn't believe he survived that. When she saw what he looked like now, her amazement turned into terror.   In the distance they could see the serpent coiling in disgruntlement and having no prey to consume yet, started to turn around and swim back for their location.   "We better search for a way through these rocks to the other side, safely away from that serpent." he said.   She could only nod in amazement and started looking for a tunnel through.   Finally they found one, entering just a fraction before, unnoticed to them before, those sharp, giant teeth snapped shut against the rock walls around the tunnel.
