THE DESECRATED VAULT 4717-12-2

General Summary

In the aftermath of the raid, it never occurred to Father Zantus to check the vaults of the towns dead and the offerings left to them by loved ones. During the morning after the raid he speaks with the party, he asks them to come with him and check on the town vaults. During the walk up to the Boneyard, Father Zantus thanks the party for their aid during the goblin assault, and asks many additional questions. He wants to find out more about the party-like, what their plans for the future are. Having an allied group of adventurers is a significant resource, and Zantus hopes to foster such an alliance with the PCs as he highly doubts the Captain of the town guard will ever do so. Before arriving at the main gates to the graveyard you catch glimpses of goblins moving back and forth to find that most of the burial vaults hang ajar. The vault in question is a square stone structure that stands near the wall. Used to house the remains of previous caretakers, priests, and acolytes who served at the Cathedral, its stone door also hangs ajar. The ground around the place is churned up as well many of the footprints are goblin prints, but some of them appear to have been left by a larger humanoid. There are about six goblins and one Medium humanoid who climbed the wall, then approached and entered the vault.   A search of the vault's interior turned up two things of interest. First, the discarded robe of bones lies in a corner (no patches remain on the now only faintly magical robe). Second, and more disturbing, is the fact that the sarcophagus that contained Ezakien's body has been opened and his remains stolen. Arriving later at the site Azorian Hemlock was only able to provide little insight into why the bones have been taken, he muses that, perhaps , the goblin raid was a distraction so that this unknown thief could steal the remains of the town's previous priest. The sheriff recommends that the PCs keep this information to themselves , in any event-the townsfolk have had enough distress this week, after all! In another tomb a tunnel leading under the town was discovered. Fail decided to investigate it.
