Thala

A large sandstone gate carved with symbols stands before me and I know! I am once again in Thala! The largest, most thriving market in all of Miradesh. Today I will make my weight in gold!" -Albeshian Trader's Journal

Demographics

Thala is mostly composed of human, half-elf and dwarven residents. A large majority of Thala's residents are craftsmen and salesmen.

Government

Thala is governed by a consortium of wealthy merchants whose bizarre laws and decrees are commonly ignored. The three self-named princes are brothers who take turns with a blessed coin of luck and fortune that keeps the economy in Thala thriving. Prince Alem is mainly known for his magical and scholarly pursuits. Prince Arri is known for more physical pursuits. Prince Abrar is known for being very generous. A fourth brother, known as Prince Arav lives in an oasis outside of town and has sworn off the monetary pursuits of his brothers.

Defences

The Shifra are the local guards of Thala. They ensure the safety of the city's people, but rarely uphold the 'law' as it is written. The laws and decrees of the three Princes are often ignored and rarely enforced.

Industry & Trade

Most inhabitants of Thala create and sell goods or offer services. Many provide provisions for the journey through Albesh. The Court of Brothers, however, houses a different set of goods. The three Princes sell their goods through middlemen in The Market of Kings. The three Princes each have a different specialty; magical and scholarly goods, weapons and armor, and general goods of higher quality.

Infrastructure

Thala is settled right on the edge of Albesh and two other neighboring countries and as such is a popular travel destination. The main road into and through Albesh begins in Thala. Thala is comprised of many sandstone and adobe buildings as well as a large public court and market. The most noticeable features of Thala are the large intricate sandstone gate that straddles the main road on entry into Thala and the large sandstone spiral with a green crystal settled into the top. The large sandstone spire is the Menhir of Tymora.

Assets

Thala is a city based on trade and as such has many thriving markets. The main market takes up most of the center of the city and is filled with a multitude of goods. The Court of Brothers, a large building on the edge of town with a large inner courtyard, has a market that is mostly filled with the goods provided by the Princes of Thala.

Guilds and Factions

Thala is run by the three Princes who all have their own goods and services they offer. However, they all worship the same deity, Tymora, the goddess of fortune and luck. There are those in the city and outside of it who believe that fate should be in the hands of Tymora, not bestowed by magic items.

History

Although Thala has existed for as long as the path through Albesh has, it has only recently become the thriving market town that it currently is. That is thanks to the three Princes' inheritance of a magical golden coin. The coin, said to be blessed by Tymora grants luck and good fortune to whom so ever holds it. The Princes take turns possessing the coin and stimulate the economy with it.

Architecture

Thala is made mostly of sandstone and adobe buildings. There are three grand palaces belonging to the three Princes and The Court of Brothers, a large intricately carved sandstone courthouse where the Princes pass out decrees and hold markets.

Geography

Thala is settled on a sand desert road surrounded by shifting dunes and rocky ground. There is an oasis nearby with a very small village around it.
