Omar Raven (OH-mar)

Appearance
Omar is a muscular man with an attractive face, jet-black eyes, and a head full of dreadlocks. He likes to decorate his braids with silver and bronze beads to match the rest of his jewelry. He would likely not describe himself as a flamboyant man, but he was raised by Birdie who adores decorations of all kinds. Omar likes to dress in outfits which might be likened to pirates' garbs, such as billowing white shirts, long black cloaks, and nice boots. When he finds himself among mortals, Omar likes to sport colorful cowboy boots and hats, and he always pairs these with loud belt buckles spotted with turquoise.
Personality
Omar is a fundamentally happy person. He views the world as a good and exciting place worthy of exploring, and he never fails to make new friends wherever he goes. Even as a young man in Midnight, Omar managed to step out of the shadow his sister cast over his family and to find a group of good friends. As he got older, his wanderlust grew more intense, and Omar set off to discover himself and his place in the world. During his travels, he met a wide variety of people. He exchanged stories with them, learned from them, and helped them whenever he could. He helped a small village in Ukraine bring their fields back to life, served as unnecessary back-up to a tribe of women in Northern Africa as they dispelled a foul creature from their community, and he helped a squad of Mermaids get rid of an oil rig just off the coast of Japan. When one of these Mermaids grew attached to Omar and asked him to stay with her, he politely declined and went on with his travels. Three years later, Omar concluded his journey and returned to his home in Midnight to pursue the garden he'd always dreamed of. Then, two years after that, he discovered a child sitting on the front porch of the Raven Mansion. His child.   Omar is a talented Witch. Thanks to the excellent tutoring of his mother and his aunt Téa, he is greatly skilled in the fields of Agriculture, Anthropology and Battle Magic. Omar loves to garden and can often be found among his many herbs, flowers, and spices in the back of the Raven Mansion. On Sundays, he joins his mother at the farmers market in Midnight where they sell the bulk of their produce and get a chance to chat with old friends. Omar occasionally attends the weekly coven meetings at the Nest as well, but due to the excessive presence of DeVaughns there, this does not happen as often as he'd like.
Family & Friends
Omar does not necessarily consider himself to be a good father. Perhaps it's because of his initial doubts as to Sam's true parentage, or maybe it's just the nagging feeling that he could do better. Regardless, Omar does his best to be a good role-model and to make good decisions for his child. Of course, decisions which appear to be good at first glance occasionally turn out to be not so good, such as when Omar sent Sam to the local high school to help with their socializing. Sam never blamed their father for this, but the memories formed within the school building would not soon go away. Regardless, Sam and Omar have a good relationship. They're different and do not always understand the other, but they love one another dearly.   Omar is close with both of his parents. After everything they've been through together, how can they not be close? When Camila took off and started down her unique path, the Ravens only had one another to lean on. That's the kind of bond that can't be marred by inconsequential spats and arguments. Omar's relationships with his parents are based in shared interest. He and Birdie spend quality time together behind the Raven Mansion, tending to their gardens and discussing Anthropology. Tom and Omar usually talk about Battle Magic, fatherhood, and growing older.   Omar sees Viktor as the older brother he never had. An older brother who likes to hide away from the world and bury his nose in ancient books. They are good friends, even though Viktor occasionally insists that he is more like a house cat than a human. Regardless, Omar is grateful for the Vampire. He sees many of Viktor's finer qualities in Sam such as their independence, their boundaries, and their determination to live their life on their own terms.   The relationship between Omar and Camila is one which is wrought with conflict. As kids, the pair got along fairly well. They squabbled and schemed, and often hid away from their parents to plot their next prank on the DeVaughn kids. As a younger sibling often does, Omar looked up to his older sister. She was brave and full of determination while he was shy and riddled with insecurities. But as Camila grew older and found insecurities of her own, Omar found himself growing more comfortable in his own skin. He also realized that his sister was facing problems which even he could not help her with. She wondered about the world which lay beyond Midnight's borders, and she often spoke about the doubts she felt ahead of her Dedication Ceremony. When Camila left without so much as a word, Omar felt like his world had fallen apart. He resented his sister and the pain she'd caused them all. Through the years, however, he learned to forgive her. He realized that Camila was a complex person with even more complicated thoughts and emotions, and she had simply tried to do the best she could with what she had.   When Birdie announced that Izzy was coming to stay with them in the Mansion, Omar did not know how to feel. He was excited about the prospect of finally meeting his estranged nieces and nephew, but it invited a great deal of sorrow as well. It reopened wounds which Omar had not bothered to think about in many years. Then he met Izzy, and she was so much like Camila that it stung to look at her. But as the days passed and Omar got to know his niece, he came to realize that she and her siblings had always been members of the Raven clan, even though they had never met. They were headstrong and full of creativity, and they cared deeply for one another. Lukas was a young man still looking for his place in the world, and he did so with begrudging patience and kindness. Meanwhile, Izzy and Carmen both jumped head-first into the world of Magic. Each excelled in their own might; Izzy with her spell casting and Carmen with her shifting. Omar watched with excitement and fondness as Sam befriended their cousins, finally getting that socialization he had wanted for them for so long.   When Omar and King Harold first met, marriage was the last thing on either of their minds. No, they were more anxious to discuss their lives which were so very different, and the things which they had in common. Raising their children as single fathers, dealing with loss, and struggling with responsibilities which neither had signed up for. After the disappearance of Queen Leondra, Harold had suddenly found himself the leader of an entire Kingdom. Meanwhile, Omar had discovered that Camila was still alive and plotting to take out Magic, and it was up to the Ravens and their friends to stop her. Indeed; both men had plenty of other things to talk about besides their romantic interests. But their budding friendship soon blossomed into something more. The men had found something in one another which neither thought they would ever experience: true partnership. They enjoyed each other's company and only wanted to spend more time together. They shared their first kiss on the balcony of King Harold's suite, a dazzling Far Meadows sunset keeping them company. After that, marriage seemed inevitable.   Since Xander was practically fully grown when King Harold remarried, Omar did not anticipate that he would become a father figure to the young man. He was a whole person with his own interests and his own story to write, and Omar did not want to get in the way of that. But the more time the two spent together, the more Omar realized that this young man did consider him to be a father figure of sorts. Omar was more laid-back than King Harold, and that seemed to be exactly the kind of person that Xander needed in order to open up. Late at night, they would sit in the King's office and share a drink. Xander opened up to him about feeling lost in the wake of losing his title, and wondering what he was good for if it was not to rule the Kingdom. Omar did his best to guide his step son. He encouraged him to travel and to see more of the world. Omar's relationship with Jack was easier to navigate. The boy was so much like his father, only with a dash of Carmen thrown in. He was creative and smart and so full of love, and he accepted Omar as his second father within minutes of first meeting him. Even Sam who did not like most of the people they encountered seemed to enjoy the boy's company.   When Omar first met Guy, this mountainous man had just returned from visiting their neighbors, the Kingdom of Brass. Guy had sought out the Brass Queen in an effort to convince her to help his homeland to rid itself of King Astra the Usurper. Although the effort had not been entirely successful, that did not change the fact that King Harold was bursting with endless gratitude for his good friend. The two had been friends for many years and Guy had often helped out as young Jack's babysitter. It did not take long for Omar to grow fond of this quirky bird-lover. The two quickly developed their own friendship, often teaming up to poke fun at the King.
