Asif Quadri

سلطان جاوا Asif Quadri

Asif Quadri was an Arabic military and political ruler under the Empire of Japan. He would lead Java until he stood down in 1645, and much like Santiago he would be credited with bringing them into an era of prosperity.

Early life

Asif was born to an Arabic family of traders, his father was Aaban Quadri and they would often run the route between India, Aceh, and Mataram. When he was 6 his family moved to the then Mataram Sultanate. When they were finally settle down Asif would attend school for 14 years, here he gained an interest in politics and military, while he was interested he saw trading as a much more important avenue and instead continued to do so, in 1592 he joined the Mataram military as a commander.

Early Career

In the military he was able to give Takeshi one of his only total losses at Semarang, ultimately Java would be captured, however Takeshi made note of his bravery a military prowess. He would spend the rest of the war in the Surakarta prison complex, treated well he held not grudge against the Japanese, however he still saw them as a potential threat to Islam. In 1593 with the war won Japanese general Jin Nakayama would ask a question to all peoples in Java and the prisoners of war, the question was whether they wanted to go to the Ottoman empire or elsewhere, many families answered yes, and many answered no, the ones woh answered yes were sent back with the Ottoman prisoners, the ones who said no were let free and back to Java.

Sultan of Java

The Japanese would leave in 1593 as well, and with that it created a power vacuum. Wars where being fought about who the next Sultan would be. Troops who used to be under Asif's command where begging him to end the lawlessness and become the new Sultan. Asif refused many times, however in 1595 his father was killed in a shootout between two contesting rulers, seeing no alternative he would take up the offer and start his path to ruler. Gathering his troops he was able to crush resistance and swiftly gained the title of Sultan in 1596. A position he didn't want, but he would do his best to lead Java in the way of prosperity.   He would manage it for 4 years before being invited to Shouri castle. He was skeptical still believing that Japan was a possible threat to Isla, however his opinion quickly changed and he agreed to allow Java to become part of the Japanese empire. His rule would be inline with Takeshi's implementing many of the policies. In 1645, almost as soon as Takeshi stepped down, he would do so as well and exit office with plenty of fanfare.

Death

He would die of natural causes alone on 1647 January 8th, he would pass and be celebrated much in the same way Takeshi and Santiago would be celebrated. He would be given an Islamic funeral and buried in Java, head facing Mecca.

Religon

Like a majority of Java at the time Asif was a devout Sunni Muslim. He would eventually have to resolve issues caused by the differing faiths throughout the Indo Pacific, however him, Santiago, and Takeshi saw to it that no conflicts ever broke out.

Memory and Evaluation

The view of him, even by many in his day was that of a shill who submitted to the Japanese empire, however many others say he is responsible for the great prosperity after the Indo Pacific wars. He is seen in the same sense as Simon Bolivar and Santiago Rodriguez.
