Uialduin marshes

The destruction of Berelaind at the end of the first age resulted in many geographical changes to northern middle earth. Mountains were thrown down and river courses altered by the cataclysmic event. The river Lhun changed direction and the confluence with the Uialduin create a large lake. For the most part of the second age, the lake was crystal clear providing an ideal location for an elvish settlement.   As the second-age progressed the lake began to silt up and so the marshes were formed. Slow years passed, and the marshes soon became treacherous. With the rise of Angmar, the Witch King sent foul creatures to begin to populate the marshes. Venture into the treacherous swamp at your peril, for beyond the relatively close regions of Caras Celairnen the swamp has the power to bewitch and devour.

Geography

The marshes are ever-shifting and a dangerous place, a few hardy Rivermen transport goods up the meandering Uialduin, and even venture into the marsh, but it is rare for the townsfolk to venture much beyond the reclaimed land of the dykes. The Celairnen is a vibrant habitat for varied flora and fauna most of which is harmless, but with the blights and the evil of Angmar other less pleasant creatures have begun to creep into the remotest parts of the marsh.
