Red Gnomish

The Red Gnomes carry with them the scars of their long history of slavery into their language. The primary cornerstone of the language is Red Dwarvish, as they had to listen to their masters, but there are various elements of the original Gnomish language that survived.

Common Phrases

Due to their culture’s history of subservience and working menial tasks, many of their phrases revolve around work. They tend to be simple turns of phrase.
Better to turn together than pull apart. – A common statement when a group is arguing over details instead of working towards a common task. IE I know these people want us to try this approach, I know these other people want us try this approach. We have to decide something. Better to turn together than pull apart.
Hammer in hand. – That someone is ready to take on a given task. IE Guz showed up to the office hammer in hand.
..like a wet marble ramp. – A position that isn’t tenable and will pull them down. An equivalent to the ‘slippery slope’. IE Cheating on that test is like a wet marble ramp. Who knows what that could lead to?
Sharp as a whip – Unlike in some human cultures where this would mean to be intelligent, this term is generally used to refer to someone being cruel. IE The prison guard is as sharp as a whip because he starves the prisoners.
There are also modern terms that have seen growing circulation since the revolution.
A Dwarven smile – A euphemism for slitting a throat. IE I am so angry at this person, I am ready to give them a Dwarven smile.
…worth as much as a merchant’s promise. – In reference to the unfair trade deals that had been forced on the earlier Republic. IE That pile of garbage is worth as much as a merchant’s promise.
