Myhtril

Mythril is a very rare form of metal found deep underground. It is incredibly dense, while being unnaturally light. It is considered by most scientists to be magical in nature, though samples are rarely available. The metal can be mined using only specifically enchanted tools, the creation of which are a closely guarded secret of the Dwarves. One cannot even split the material without these tools.   The durability and resiliency of this material makes it highly desirable, and much sought after even in modern times. Exports are incredibly rare, and Dwarves tend to keep the material mostly for their own purposes.

Properties

Material Characteristics

It is an incredibly light material, comparable to aluminum, that appears to be nigh impenetrable. The material in its refined form is nearly white, and unrefined seems to resemble a form of crystal.   It is resilient to manipulation without specialized tools.

History & Usage

History

The Dwarves discovered the secrets to mythril in ancient times. Since then, the material has been used to furnish the highest echelons of Dwarven society. It is used almost exclusively for military purposes due to its nature. It is used in the crafting of arms and armours for their Kings, highest ranking nobles, and in exceedingly rare instances their elite guards.   It is on very rare occasion exported to other nations, or more often stolen.

Everyday use

Due to its light weight and resilient nature, it is more often used in armour. Due to its rarity, it is usually used as an armour component rather than as a full suit. That it would be used for plates covering vital areas, or some chain mail to cover the gaps in other suits of armour.

Industrial Use

The material has never successfully been integrated as an alloy and its rare availability means it has never been adopted at any sort of industrial scale. It remains exclusively an artisanal good.
