Magic: The Sundering

Magic: The Sundering is a collectible card game produced by Manufacturers of the Coast. It is a satirical take on the conflict between technology and magic. It is usually a two player game, though there are player created variations to allow different game styles.   This is a card game where the goal is to reduce your total Magic Points to zero. You can accomplish this by rolling out different machines, and your enemies can spoil this with different sabotage cards. The first player to zero magic points wins.

History

Various games have been created dedicated to different elements and periods of history. Some very serious war games, that try their best to reflect the conflict at hand. Some boil these elements down to their most basic forms. Some use them as an excuse to sell overpriced pieces of cardboard.   The conflict between the different Magical and Technological forces in the world has been a driving factor of many peoples' lives since the invention of the steam engine. It is only natural that there are different games dedicated to it.   Magic: The Sundering was created as a satirical take on this conflict.

Execution

In a standard game of Magic: The Sundering, both players start with seven cards and 20 Magic Points. The player's objective is to reduce their own MP to 0.   To play most cards, one has to invest Elements to play it. Elements are gained from Land cards. There are five different types of elements: Red (Fuel), White (Population), Green (Resources), Black (Pollution), and Blue (Innovation).   Turn Order is:   Begin (untap spent lands, draw a card) Main phase (play a land, play any cards you want and can afford) Sabotage (declare attacks on enemy cards, defender declares guards, resolve) Main phase again (play a land if you haven't, play any cards you want and can afford) End (repair any damaged cards not destroyed, yours and opponents, pass the turn over)   If you begin your turn at 0 MP, you win.   Active Cards on the field all have a Damage and Defence value. The amount a player's MP is reduced is determined by adding together the Damage values of your active cards.   Different cards will do different things that provide different benefits. Players can improve your Active Cards or destroy enemy cards. They can even increase the amount of MP an opponent has.

Components and tools

A deck of cards (usually 40), and a way to track MP (usually a twenty sided die)
