Flametongue the Amber

Many dragons have existed over the millenia. Though some have been great and some have been small, the yardstick used by many nations is the mythical Flametongue. A giant red dragon that burned whole cities to the ground. It wore a crown decorated with the crowns of a thousand kinds. It slept in the wealth of entire nations.   The existence of Flametongue is debated. Though many dragons are known to have existed throughout history, there is no direct evidence that Flametongue was real. Some scholars suggest that as dragons could be highly mobile, and highly destructive, that it was easier to associate all dragon attacks to one perpetrator.   The Draconic Relations League feels that Flametongue is the embodiment of a negative stereotype of draconic behaviour and has been pushing back against depictions of the character.

Summary

The Legend of Flametongue only begins once the dragon had already become a scourge.   It was a mighty red dragon, nearly the size of a football pitch. Its scales glowed with the heat contained in its body. Its eyes blazed with power and fury. Its head was framed with a crown of spikes, and each spike adorned with a different crown.   The great heat of its body was only matched by the empty chill of its heart. The only thing Flametongue loved was gold. The only thing Flametongue cared for was its power. It would callously burn an entirely city to the ground if it somehow improved the wealth and power of the mighty dragon.   In the end, the dragon fell by its own arrogance.   It sought to swim in a massive bath of liquid gold, and had the wealth of entire nations melted down. The bath was so pleasant to the dragon, it eventually fell asleep. But the lesser races in this moment put aside their greed and saw their chance for freedom.   They kept pouring in more and more of the boiling gold, and the bath grew deeper and deeper. Eventually, the dragon went to take a deep breath and got a gilded breath. It snapped back to consciousness, but all the gold that had been poured on it before had long since hardened during his nap.   It trashed. It roared. It screamed. It pleaded. It drowned.
