Ichor

Blood of the Divine

General

Ichor is not completely understood and many wager it never will be. Some wonder if it is magical in origin, while the prospect of it being something of the Divine has gained massive support over the last few centuries.

Location

Ichor can be found naturally nearly anywhere underground, though substantially large veins of it are rare indeed. An unusually large Ichor vein deposit has been discovered underneath the City of Saong Mearach, though its location is a closely guarded secret by the officials within the City State.

State of Matter

Ichor comes in three states of matter: Solid, Gaseous, and Liquid.
  • Solid Ichor is nigh reminiscent of golden-shaded crystal with a similar feel to stainless steel.
  • Liquid Ichor is similar in appearance to a tar-like substance that varies in appearance, from liquid golden-shaded crystal to liquid gold.
  • Gaseous Ichor is golden-shaded and glimmer in the moonlight. It is initially lighter than air, although due to its habit of spontaneously giving off a gravitational effect, it might stay closer to the ground.
  • The three states are not determined by temperature, nor any other naturally occurring phenomena, as it can change its state randomly and without warning. However, the most common state it takes is solid, while the rarest is gaseous.

    Apperance

At first glance, one might mistake Ichor for gold. However, the longer one looks at it, the more obvious it becomes that it is in fact something else entirely.
Beyond appearing slightly translucent, its golden surface will, at random intervals, ripple like water like when someone throws a stone into a lake. The ripples themselves appear in all the colors of the rainbow, even in cases when it is in a solid or gaseous state.
In its solid form, the surface of Ichor will change between being smooth as silk, to be covered in tiny sharp outcroppings.

    Capabilities

    Body Corrosion

Six out of ten people who work with Ichor experience one of its more horrific abilities. Similar to what dampness and water do to metal, Ichor will gradually corrode flesh and bone.
The body will appear to slowly decompose, giving it a fiery red shade and thousands of warty outcroppings. Most victims only last about six years before they are, both mentally and physically, too damaged to continue working.

    Ascendance

Ichor is capable of causing Apothesis within people, constructs, and objects. When the process is complete, those who have survived without breaking apart, are known as the Ascended, though the word will have different meanings for each type.
  • Ascended people will have received near-divine capabilities that vary from specimen to specimen.
  • Ascended constructs will usually receive sapience and a fundamental understanding of the world around them, though this is the rarest type of ascendency and only achievable in specific circumstances.
  • Ascended inanimate objects are the most common form of ascendency found in the wild. Stones and trees amassed together to resemble creatures, either humanoid or something more akin to wildlife, awaken to life seemingly spontaneously. Most of these specimens are known colloquially as Vekters.
  • While it is rumored to exist more than these three, these are the most accepted among the scholarly circles.

    Elemental Reactions

Ichor can sometimes react spontaneously and take on the form of an elemental capability.
  • Fire Ichor acts similarly to naturally occurring fire, though it can reach much hotter temperatures and can burn on materials that are incapable of sustaining a natural fire, such as steel or glass. Fire Ichor can also burn well while submerged in various liquids, such as water, fat, sugar, or blood. If it would come into contact with bodies, the end-results are not pretty.
  • Ice Ichor acts similar to natural ice but can withstand temperatures in the thousands without melting. They also carry an electrical surge within themselves and can sometimes give off various light shows. Large quantities can also freeze people upon contact, turning them into semi-transparent ice statues. That, or possibly electrocute people to a crisp.
  • Gravity Ichor, also known as Dark Ichor, is the rarest of all types of Elemental Ichor, as well as considered to be the most dangerous. The gravity has a dark-orange, near black-shaded horizon that is only vaguely visible in the corner of one's eye. It will cause objects and people to either feel heavier or lighter, the latter of which can cause levitation to occur, while the former can cause craters to form underneath them.
  • In worst cases, sudden explosions of Gravity ichor will either rip things on a molecular level or compress them into tiny blocks. Though black hole creation has also been speculated to be possible.
  • Abnormal Ichor is the name on Ichor which will materialize strange effects. Examples include blobs of lava that materializes into the air, only to freeze solid within seconds and then explode in a flash of burning light. Or cause wood-like matter to explode out of stone or flesh, only to decay and wither away minutes later.
