Nether Vampirism

Written by Artgalles

The Nether bloodline is a specific type of Vampirism that is found in the country of Enser and slightly in neighbouring countries. Unlike most vampires, they don't take weakness to the sun in a conventional way. The sun and fire are stored as an energy source inside of the vampire and can be used to activate a multitude of abilities.   The bloodline originates from the royal bloodline of Flames inside of the Shesire Sovereignty who caught vampirism. Those unaffected tried to burn the vampires before they lost their minds completely. The natural Ashen fire resistance gave them enough strength to retreat away to the Lamented Mountains to an old abandoned fortress. Through magic and adaptation, their abilities have changed to what they currently are.   They get just as pale as the rest of vampires but a noticeable feature is how they gain freckles compared to how much solar energy they have stored away. Their eyes are just as sensitive and mimic the blood tones once fed. Not all are ashen, but those that aren't are generally weaker. Once they use their infernal abilities they lose their freckles and gain a burn mark. The burn marks arent always permanent, but it is based on how much solar energy is released.   Their solar powers have the ability to release the energy around the vampire as a torch on fire. The main three uses that consist of releasing the energy are Infernal Breath, Fire Walker and Burning Kiss. The Infernal Breath is achieved by projecting it out like the breath of a dragon. The Fire Walker is the act of enhancing the abilities of the vampire by increasing speed and strength temporarily, this leaves a trail of fire behind and makes them exhausted, but doesn't harm them. Burning Kiss is named after the story of how Shesire kissed the ashen in the fire, this ability releases the infernal flame all around their body causing anyone nearby to be burnt including the vampire.

Transmission & Vectors

It is transmitted by feeding on prey and letting the disease spread through the saliva into the prey's bloodstream.

Symptoms

  • Pale diluted grey skin.
  • Eyes lose tone and match the colour of blood once fed.
  • Sharp fangs.
  • Loss of pulse.
  • Dependency on feasting on blood.
  • Thicker nails.
  • Lots of freckles from interaction with the sun.
  • incapable of conceiving children.
  • Rashes when reacting to Garlic.

Treatment

Through a divine blessing.

Prevention

The most common protection method is to keep garlic nearby as it is believed they would far sooner prey on someone without the garlic than one with it. Consuming garlic might also make the vampire release instantly after biting reducing the amount of time the disease would have to spread.

Cultural Reception

When a vampire is seen a bunch of hunters will go out to seek it and will impale it with stakes to prevent it from moving and carry it back to their settlement to burn it in front of everyone.
