Fridvi Ituvak
Found across the western border of Berulia is the country of Fridvi Ituvak, its name directly translating to “New Death”, however, this name is more in remembrance of a once powerful sorcerer and king of the neighbouring country by the name of Ituvak Sangsivsaluil.
The country was conquered by Ituvak’s loyal general, Ngirap-jigh, and his soldiers in the year -1037 PS merely a month after the War of Broken Vows came to a close.
It is said that each of the soldiers inhaled the fog that Ituvak summoned, and without having a single breath of air they marched across the entirety of Berulia and entered what was at the time the country of Bukhvul.
Like that of a tsunami, the fog was released and crashed upon the land ripping it from all its previous life. It is said that every last tree was uplifted and flung out of the country, others say it was the rapid conquering that led to many of the forests being deforested or burnt in the process.
These invaders massacred anyone who opposed them, killing even the monarch before declaring the country independent.
This fog, unlike that of Berulia, has the effect of pulling corpses from death to guard the border.
The deforestation led to certain flora becoming predominant, the trees losing all their leaves and started growing a unique form of hanging moss, often referred to as Hag’s Hair.
A common flower is the Widow’s Veil, which appears ghostly and ethereal with its pallid, entirely white appearance, featuring a slender, single drooping stem topped by a small, nodding flower resembling a translucent, spectral bell.
Some of these changes are theorized to be caused by magic, but since there was an absence of researchers documenting the land firsthand, it is rather unknown.
The country prides itself on being classless, with the mentality of anyone who successfully steals from another is permitted by unspoken law to keep the item.
Besides this title as the classless society, there is a second group who aren’t considered people, these are made up of anyone who opposes the people's ideology, They are branded with a sigil typically under their right eye and are treated as slaves. These people are referred to as the unspoken for its against the unspoken law for them to speak, often having their tongues removed.
However, anyone who doesn’t disagree is permitted to stay within the country, this has led it to become the home for many refugees and convicts. Forming slums and issuing their own governance within.
In the year -811 PS a mercenary company from Berulia took control of the eastern settlements forming a more unified government. This period lasted approximately 200 years with different forces entering the land and claiming control of the eastern government.
This time brought in changes in plants, specifically agricultural crops through domestication, some of these include:
Lanternroot, A bioluminescent tuber that provides a soft, eerie glow when ready to be harvested.
Weeping Wheat, A tall, slender grain plant with drooping fronds that sway in the breeze and make the sound of weeping.
Ghostberry Bush, A thorny shrub-bearing berries which resemble that of someone screaming.
Creepshade, A dark, velvety leafy plant that grows in the shade.
Spiritroot, An underground root vegetable with a mysterious, smoky flavour.
Alongside the bringing in of other crops which could grow in a few habitats.
In -302 PS, a group of the unspoken, successfully led a daring coup to overthrow the ruling class. Their covert actions spark a wave of hope among the oppressed, leading to the central region being ruled by them, forcing the practitioners to flee to the western coast, or to remain concealed. After 10 years they aligned themself with the last few remaining governing bodies of the east.
This led to the east regaining its footing and becoming a flourishing community once more, with trade being their main source of income.
In -112 PS, Fridvi Ituvak experienced a decade of political upheaval and rebellion as multiple factions vied for control of the nation. The chaos leads to shifting alliances, betrayals, and the rise of charismatic leaders who promise stability and reform.
Ultimately with the covens massacreing all the unspoken within the central capital, and taking hold of it as their new homeland. Now instead of hiding in the country side they hide within the castle walls.
