BB-24: Eric's Betrayal

General Summary

Awakening from a well-earned long rest, Eskyr was the first to emerge the next morning. He discovered a note lettered in gold in the inn's hallway, which revealed that Vellypsis had left in the night following the crypt's harrowing events. Her parting gifts were a small component pouch and 3 books. Upon referring this news to the group, Eskyr headed for the bar, where he was greeted by a familiar face. Eric the wizard lay asleep on one of the chairs, ignored by Eskyr as he went to the bar. As the rest of the party arose, Strate noticed a quiet human in the corner of the bar. He struck up a conversation with her, and she introduced herself as Munpari. Seemingly from Strate's world, albeit in a different time period, Munpari spoke of a great war, as well as 2 enormous clouds of ash that had flown over her homeland, a story which Strate seemed to know well. Munpari was the sole survivor of a group wherein her companions were killed suddenly by cultists of the god Duplicity. Eric was interested in this conversation and joined in, we all chatted for a while before deciding to head to the local Envoy Centre to have our new magic items appraised. As we left, Eric hurried us into a nearby alleyway. Upon entering, a portal opened up through which a human and Skale walked out, and Eric revealed his betrayal. Eric, a cultist of the group that killed Munpari's companions, attacked us. We fought a difficult battle against Eric and his minions, but Eric fell to Eskyr's boot on his throat. His parting words: "If you kill me now, Marrion's forces will be coming for you." Meant little to Eskyr, however, Strate seemed to recognise the name. The last cultist mysteriously dropped dead, foaming at the mouth after Strate gave chase. We cleaned up after the battle and eventually made it to the Envoy Centre. Amedee and Eskyr's items were valued and licensed, and we sorted through Kilo's retrieved inventory. Finally, we headed for the shops to find a buyer for our items.
