Meteorite "Prometheus" (/prəˈmiːθiəs/)
Origins
The origins of Prometheus trace back to a time beyond the memory of even the eldest elves. It is said that the meteorite was once part of a celestial body inhabited by an ancient and powerful civilization that thrived on harnessing cosmic magic. As their world was consumed by a great cataclysm, a fragment of their home was cast into the cosmos, carrying with it the concentrated energies of their lost society. Eons later, this fragment would become known as Prometheus, as it hurtled through the cosmos before finally colliding with the First World on the 26th of Verdantbloom, -131 BC.Appearance
Prometheus emanates an ethereal beauty that seems almost otherworldly. The meteorite appears as a massive, crystalline structure, its surface shimmering with a kaleidoscope of iridescent colors that seem to dance and shift with every movement of the observer's gaze. The heart of Prometheus glows with an inner light, pulsating with a mesmerizing rhythm, as if it is alive and breathing. It is a sight both awe-inspiring and intimidating, a testament to the immense power it holds within. The Promethean shards themselves are fragments of the meteorite, each one a beautiful and deadly testament to the power they hold. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but all share a common appearance: a crystalline structure that appears to have been hewn from the very fabric of the cosmos itself. The shards shimmer with the same iridescent colors as Prometheus, the hues shifting and changing as if reacting to an unseen force. When held, the shards feel unnaturally cold to the touch, and the air around them seems to hum with palpable energy. It is said that the shards can whisper to those who possess them of the untold power that lies within, waiting to be unlocked by those brave or foolish enough to wield it.Collision with the First World
The impact of Prometheus on the continent of Lesefaron was immense. The once thriving and verdant lands south of the Granite Spine were transformed into a desolate, frozen wasteland. This transformation was not merely the result of the physical destruction caused by the meteorite's fall, but also due to the potent magical energies it radiated. These energies twisted the landscape, causing snow to fall even in the warmest seasons and spawning magical constructs that roamed the land, indiscriminately destroying all living things in their path. The frozen desert that Prometheus created in its wake is an eerie and haunting landscape. The once lush and fertile land south of the Granite Spine has been transformed into an endless expanse of ice and snow, the frozen ground cracked and warped by the magical energies unleashed during the meteorite's impact. The air is perpetually cold and filled with a biting wind that seems to cut straight to the bone. Here, the sky is painted in a perpetual twilight, the sun's rays unable to pierce the veil of shimmering auroras that dance above the horizon. It is a land of desolation, where the silence is only broken by the howling wind and the distant, unsettling sounds of the magical constructs that wander the wastes. Promethean shards, the remnants of the fallen meteorite, became a valuable and highly sought-after resource. When refined, these shards could be used to create magical weapons of unmatched power, capable of bending the very fabric of reality to their wielder's will. The Volion Lesethocracy, with their innate affinity for magic, were among the first to recognize the potential of these shards and began exploiting them to fuel their ambitions.Historical significance
The use of Promethean shards in the War of the Mirror had a profound and lasting impact on the world. As the conflict escalated, the Volion Lesethocracy and the Sarentek Federation sought to gain an upper hand by tapping into the power of the shards to create even more destructive weapons. It was the discovery and subsequent battle over a powerful artifact that pushed the world to the brink of annihilation. In a desperate bid to prevent the Sarentek from controlling the artifact, the archmages of Volion cast the Spell of Sundering, using a nexus of Promethean shards. The resulting Terminal Catastrophe shattered the world, cleaving the First World in two and giving birth to the Sundering Sea. After centuries of chaos and destruction, civilization slowly began to rebuild. On the 31st of Ivorybloom, 140 CE, the first settlements around Prometheus were established, marking the beginning of a new era of Promethean exploitation. The magnitude of the extraction may be lower than in the past, and the risks far greater, but the allure of the meteorite's power still draws many to its frozen embrace. As the world once again begins to explore the possibilities offered by the Promethean shards, it remains to be seen if the lessons of the past will be remembered, or if history will repeat itself in another cycle of devastation.Remove these ads.
