Harpy

Harpy Traits

Harpies have a variety of natural abilities, evolved from survival in the wilderness.
Note that harpies are exclusively female, with no known male counterpart.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and Charisma by 1.

Age

Harpies may achieve physical maturity earlier than humans, but within their tribes, they are deemed adults only after they leave their familial nests. Harpies have an average lifespan of around 70 years, but some of them can live up to 100 years.

Size

Harpies range from under 4 feet to a bit over 5 feet tall and have lithe builds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Flight

You have a flying speed of 40 feet. To use this speed, you can't be wearing medium or heavy armor.

Darkvision

As harpies are nocturnal hunters, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Masters of the Skies

While in flight, you are treated as having proficiency in the Acrobatics skill, and normally add your proficiency bonus to any Dexterity (Acrobatics) check. Additionally, if you are falling, you can use your reaction to take flight.

Pheromonal Charm

You have proficiency in the Persuasion skill.

Winged Limbs

Your arms are wings, you cannot equip weapons or use items that require you to use hands.

Talons

You are proficient with your unarmed strikes, which deal 1d4 slashing damage on a hit.

Polymorphic

You can use your bonus action to temporarily transform your body, trading in your wings for two functional arms that allow you to wield weapons and perform tasks that require hands, and your talons for two feets that allow you to walk. While shapeshifted, your walking speed becomes 30 feet, no longer get advantage to Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks and can no longer take flight or use your talons. This transformation lasts 1 hour or until you willingly cancel it as a bonus action. After you use this racial feature, you can't use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Druidic Tradition

You know the gust cantrip. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the entangle spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Languages

You can speak, read and write Common. Additionally you can speak Harpy. Harpy is a highly melodic form of communication that incorporates chirping, trills and whistling. These vocalizations are an important part of their communication with other harpies, and can convey a variety of emotions and messages.
