In an attempt to fully explore the periphery of the Empire, the noble scholar Thomas von Breuer went east, attempting to find a natural barrier which could protect the Empire against foreign threats. He came upon an impenetrable jungle which he found sufficient. As the land around him was fertile and yet unsettled he decided to settle his expeditions some forty kilometers west of the jungle, attempting to establish an outpost of the Empire.

The Barbarian Invasions of the East
To the east of the mighty Rhendorian Empire lies an impenetrable jungle, home to savage barbarians. From there, they launch vicious invasions which sometimes come close to devastate the Empire and shake it to its core.

After the initial settlement of the Grenzland, it took some time before the Rhendorians recognized the danger posed by the barbarians. The uncertainty ended when the first barbarian invasion ravaged the Grenzland and left it barren.
