Menegoth

If there was one major event that caused Menegoth to be written into the history books, it was the Elder War. The War was fought during the seventeenth to eighteenth century of the Northreckoning calendar. Fought between Elvenkind and Men, constant turmoil strained a once beneficial and symbiotic relationship between these races.     The power contained within the Elderwood trees made Men fearful and jealous of what this incredible material could contain. Able to be freely smelted and worked upon by the finest of Elven blacksmiths, the true power of Elderwood came to be known in weapons. The arcane knowledge of the Elderwood trees was passed to the weapon, and thus, an extremely powerful (and magical) sword, shield, or bow was formed.   Over the course of a 111 year war, no one side could win out over the other. The Men, with their superior numbers and control over the forest, ended the war by burning every single Elderwood Tree to the ground. Still, tensions remained high, although a peace treaty was in effect once the Men retreated back through the Forest. The Men had managed to build an entire city out of the fabled wood, causing magical energy to fluctuate throughout the Eastern part of Menegoth. However, they couldn't manage to activate the arcane powers supposedly held within.   It is now year 1898 NR, and the two races have agreed to start trade again.
