Realm Sealer

Realm sealers are the hidden keepers of the material plane. Those brave enough and strong enough to fight against the encroaching dangers of outer planes that creep in. These usung heroes face the horrors of the universe so that others never see them.

Career

Qualifications

It takes years, often decades of training to become a realm sealer. Many are born into the trade and raised since birth. Any person with enough bravery and dedication can become a realm sealer, but it requires a great deal of both. Most are not fit for the job.

Career Progression

The realm sealer profession is not known by many and lead by a single council. The council long ago decided to seperate the ranks by colored ribbons worn typically around their arms.

Trainee(Green)

Trainees learn the basics of the craft and are not put out into the field yet. They learn the basic manipulation of the arcane weave, and simple fighting techniques to both stay alive and make sure his enemies aren't. This stage of training can take a long time for some, up to 10 years sometimes. The quicker learners still take years to learn though. After this stage a trainee becomes either a Defender or a Spark. One specializes in combat, the other magic.

 

Defenders(Light Red)

Oftentimes the fighting comes more naturally than the spellcasting does for trainees. If that is the case, they become a slayer that wears the red ribbon. These are the soldiers that face off against the creatures that leak in from other planes.

 

Slayers(Dark Red)

Slayers are Defenders that earned respect and skill in their craft. Typcially this rank goes to those that could never master the spellcasting so they became exceptional at the combative aspect of the profession.

 

Sparks(Light Blue)

If a trainee is more proficient in magic than combat, they wear the blue banner of the sparks. More rare than the Defenders, these realm sealers learn the magicla disruptions that dimensional rifts cause. Not quite powerful enough to close rifts directly yet they deal with the side effects and clean up. This is a very tiring task and is allows for quick realization that spellcasting is difficult to train.

 

Weaver(Dark Blue)

Weavers are Sparks that managed to improve their spellcasting ability enough to directly interfere with rifts. Weavers are the heart of the society of Realm Sealers, without them no rifts would be repaired. The most respected role outside of Prophets.

 

Prophet(Purple)

Prophets are those very few select individuals that managed to excel in both fields of Realm Sealing, magical and combative ability. Prophets are said to gain a supernatural sense of dimensional energy, allowing them to locate rifts very well. There have been few prophets in all of time, and all have gone down in legend. It takes serious skill to be able to compete with a Slayers ferocity and a Weaver's magic.

Payment & Reimbursement

Realm Sealers are often payed by job, meaning many have other careers before this, usually just the lower ranks though. They may not have consistant pay but are typically payed extremely well because the people paying them are typically cities with an issue or rich inidivuals that need their help. The higher ranking Sealers tend to focus on training and live job to job while the lower ranks see this profession as a well paying but risky side job.

Really good article!   I would have liked learning a bit more about what Sealers do in the field, but how they can vary is specialties and most seem to treat the job as a side gig are really good details!   ----------------------------------------------------------------   Feel free to check out my World Ember page.
