The Waymaker
The Waymaker is the most crucial artifact in this story.
Appearance -
The Waymaker is a tesseract or hypercube made of silver that folds into itself and appears to warp through 4d space. The inside of the hypercube shows locations that can be warped to and the location can be changed by rotating the cube in 3d space. By precisely rotating the cube, locations can be selected by the wielder and warped to with accuracy. A new user will struggle to select locations quickly and will likely need to concentrate intensely to select a destination correctly. As a user grows more experienced, these locations can be selected quickly, and the Waymaker can even be affixed to a belt loop and wielded down by someone's side. This is typically done since the Waymaker provides no inherent offensive capabilities and the wielder must augment their fighting styles with other means of offense.
Powers -
The Waymaker can be used to warp to a precise location that has been seen before. If the wielder has seen a room inside a building, they can warp exactly to that location, and they can even fine-tune their position within that room if they are experienced enough. If the appearance of the room has changed, they can still warp to the room, and their positioning will be based on where an object was before. For example, if the user tries to teleport on top of a table, but the table has been moved across the room, they will warp to where the table was before, but they will be in midair, or on top of whatever is now in that location. If this would cause them to be warped inside of a solid object, they spit out in the nearest area that doesn't contain a solid object. If they try to warp into a location that has since moved, for example, a boat that they traveled across the ocean in, they will be warped to the location that the boat was in at the point they visualized the boat last.
The most experienced users can finely tune the Waymaker to allow them to make short-distance teleportations at high speed. Fighting against an experienced wielder is like fighting the wind, as they warp around blades and magical blasts.
The Mindshaper's Lock -
At the time of the Celestial Partition, when the Zodiac had their minds erased by the wielder of the Mindshaper, the wielder of the Waymaker was the last to have his mind erased. When it came time to erase their memories of the partition, the Waymaker's wielder suggested that someone who knows the truth of the Celestial Partition should be left knowing the truth. As such, the Mindshaper was used to create a lock on the Waymaker, which significantly limited its powers, but made it so that anyone soulbound to the Waymaker will always know the full details of the Great Truth. The user, cannot, however, tell anyone that does not know about the Great Truth anything about the subject. Not only is the user unable to do so, but they will feel strongly compelled not to, it will not even be a desire to tell. If interrogated for information, the user will die and be subject to extreme pain or discomfort before telling anyone. The wielder is, however, able to act in ways that prevent the great truth from being revealed but not forbidden from acting in ways that would lead to it being revealed. The wielder is also not forbidden from trying to remove the lock, although this must be done by the Mindshaper. The wielder of the Mindshaper is unaware of any of this and the Mindshaper is not otherwise linked to the Waymaker.
The lock has also imposed a significant restriction on the power of the Waymaker. When creating the lock, neither the wielder of the Mindshaper nor the Waymaker realized that this restriction would be created. While most Artifacts do impose physical taxation on the wielder, this can be offset with silver. The Waymaker however cannot be offset in this way. As such, the wielder of this artifact is subject to very limited usage of this artifact. This restriction is what leads to the wielder of the Waymaker dying after warping all of the Zodiac away from the antagonist during his initial assault on the council.
Greater Physical Taxation -
The taxation that is suffered from using the Waymaker is directly related to the distance that is being traversed. As the wielder grows more experienced, this limit is increased, but only to a certain extent. The wielder at the start of the story is considered by most of the Zodiac to be the greatest wielder of the Waymaker in history. This is why he is able to warp the Zodiac away from the antagonist, even though this does prove too much for him.
Traveling small distances is nearly imperceptible to the wielder's taxation but requires great skill, so it is difficult for newbies to control, even though it allows for relatively no concern when it comes to usage. This range is approximately a 10-foot radius from the wielder. Traveling within line of sight is much less taxing as well, but more taxing than traveling within 10 feet. The next threshold is 10-50 miles, and anything beyond is greatly taxing, increasing exponentially afterward.
The Waymaker Unbound -
Once Atlas confronts his brother and fights him, the Mindshaper removes the lock on the Waymaker. Removing this lock causes such an explosion of power that Atlas is waymade into the past, prior to the start of the story. (Maybe 10-15 years?) After this point, the Waymaker becomes like any other type of artifact, and its taxation can be offset by silver like usual. This allows Atlas to use the Waymaker like none other, and he can use silver to warp essentially unlimited distances at whatever frequency he desires, so long as he has the silver to offset it. Breaking the lock also allows him to share the knowledge of the Great Truth with anyone he desires, although this knowledge is no longer bound to the Waymaker, so future wielders that soulbind to the artifact would not be freely granted that knowledge.
