Maydon Fae Trap

Create a plant species for your players (or main characters) to interact with - a trap, environmental hazard, or even an attacking creature in your world!   Named such due to its distinct habitat of Maydons warm and jungle like fae wilds the fae trap is more of a family of plants than a single type. These large plants actually seem to feed on magical energy from the other plains rather than the physical form of their prey. This is of little comfort to those beings caught by one as they will be rapidly drained of all forms of energy and wither to a husk in a matter of minutes. These plants are extremely dangerous and hard to identify and the wise adventurer avoids fae wilds at all costs.   While the fae trap encompases many types of plant they all share a few characteristics. All of these plants have a "mouth" for most this manifests as a large flat set of leaves that lay spread open on the ground or in the canopy until an unwitting meal steps onto them. The plant then reacts to the energy it senses and snaps shut encasing the prey in thick tough leaves. While others may use tubular leaves that are coated in a sticky goo trapping prey in a pit of sorts or even long vines that may hang until brushed and then recoil in a heartbeat dragging prey into the awaiting plant above all fae traps are deadly and share a love of magic.   Recent studies suggest that the more mundane an object the less it triggers a fae traps senses. While any living being has enough latent energy to activate it things like wood, glass or metal trigger no response. An enchanted object however or a being with magic triggers a violent and rapid response. These types of prey usually have little chance of escape as the trap is sprung with energy relative to the energy to be gained, in short the more power potential prey has the faster the trap triggers to capture it.   A final warning: no forest or jungle is entirely safe. Any location with sufficient magical energy may give rise to fae traps. It is always wise to watch your step and have a mundane scout as they stand a better chance than the parties mages.
