Major language groups and dialects

Darik is the standardized language of Aquimore, but there are multiple dialects between the islands.

Shared customary codes and values

We, as one, fear the sea. Its depths hold unknown beasts, and its surface holds unknown dangers. We build our ships of steel, we build our cities away from the coast, and we do not look to the sea for answers. There are no answers to any of our questions under the water. There is only death.

Common Dress code

Aquimore emphasizes modesty in dress, through shapeless clothes. The near-constant rainfall makes the people wear waterproof coats, and these outer layers are embroidered with designs that signal status.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Their tradition is chaos. They regularly have violent uprisings, where most of the nobility are beaten into submission by their workers, and from there the cycle repeats. It's bizarre.

Gender Ideals

Ladies of noble status, do not dirty your hands with physical work. Work those fingers along a needlepoint, hone your mind with running the estate and the lands. Study and create breakthroughs in philosophy and art. Your husbands, fathers, and brothers will sully their minds with work and finance.

The gender divide is clearly pronounced in Aquimore. A deeply traditional society entrenched in a web of customs and rituals makes for a complex country to navigate. While the wealthier women lead the Empire in the universities, they are barred from holding money, and from most physical labor. Of course, no restrictions apply to the poorer women and labourers. They are still barred from their own finances, but they still have to keep the country's more menial work running.

Men are expected to be strong, smart, and wealthy. The ability to run a business, a fleet, or simply a farm is key to their success. Sailors and soldiers are almost exclusively men due to the restrictions, but in factories and farms they are represented almost equally with women.
