Present Day

Mars City isn't normal. Only, it wasn't always that way.   It started with an election. One man changed the course of Mars City forever. His name –– Samuel O'Kirke –– became one that criminals whispered as a blessing over their unlawful endeavors. His singlehandedly destroyed the police force and unwittingly led the city towards ruin. Crime ran rampant, and some strange, new criminals appeared.   Two people resurrected it, Cirrus and Aegis. Both were young and inexperienced, but they won. They turned the city around. They became celebrities, and the city mourned for months when Aegis died in battle.   The mayor supported the two wholeheartedly. Now, he thought, the city really didn't need a police force –– it had superheroes, after all. He kept that mindset for the rest of his term.   Now the year is 2024. It's time for a new mayoral election. Aegis has been for years. New superheroes have joined ranks with Cirrus. The villains are stronger.   The fight for justice is hardly over.
