The Traveller

An extract of a book written by a civilian in the times of the Elveir.

Zero

From another land, a stranger arrived in the night. His dress and peculiar style were unlike anything I had ever glimpsed before. The lone figure strode with confidence and demanded to visit our High Council. Brought in chains for security and fear, he was taken and interrogated before he finally gave his warning. He foretold of a great disaster that would fall upon the land. The ocean would claim the world and death would consume all living things. Magic would seize to exist and we would all be forgotten to time, made primitive by the end with a new race rising in our stead and dominate the globe as we had done. These stories haunted the council and as such, they tried to hush up the news. The man was never seen again and most feared his life had been taken, removed for his views. One of the members on the High Council grew insane with the accusations of the future and began to experiment on methods to achieve true immortality to survive. The Alchemist was hardly seen after and many of his inventions and methods are still unknown. Although his devices and artefacts are supposedly going to survive the fall of our people. Of course, this is just a story. It never really happened. Did it?
When asked his name; he said it was meaningless and nothing. So we came to call him Zero.

This was written at the twilight of the Elveir's rule. The council has now fallen into mythology.
