Organization - Insectoid Hives

In the dark, they scattered. Hundreds of Drow Slaves snuck about on the dark surface of the Formian-occupied Elven planet. One platoon lead by Galviel, a highly trained Soldier, had landed several miles from the target location. This was per design. Galviel knew the Formian tactics. Upon discovery, those at the target location would be wiped out swiftly. He had landed well behind the Formian scout line with four Cultist Peons. Though he knew they were trapped on the planet, he hadn't been prepared to die the way his Soldier Brothers had. He had survived many missions, and had the scars to prove it.   "You," he barked in Abysmal. "Pack up these 'chutes. The rest of you, prepare a ritual space. We perform an invisibility ceremony for Dawn." He turned his back to them and walked deeper into the wasteland. He'd never understand why Formians so preferred these rocky planets. If he did, he would know that every step he took traveled further than he could imagine at speeds faster than sound through the solid rock surface. He would know that Formians knew where every member of their species was at any given time. And he would know that simply by landing on the planet, dozens of individuals were immediately aware of his position and were moving to flank his position through sub-surface webs of tunnels dug decades ago.   Crec'na was put in charge of the local Colony as the Drow descended. As they landed and prepared their camps, Formian Soldiers hid themselves in rocky outcrops and stone-capped tunnel exits, feeling the ground with sensitive hairs in their many legs for their new prey. Though highly intelligent and scientific at their core, the Formians had a carnal instinct to protect their hive. The hunt was on, and the Drow were not prepared.

Research the Extinction Event

Assets

Thousands of vessels, Simple and effective colonization tools, Species-specific telepathic bond.

History

The Formians appeared in the system seemingly from nowhere. They claim to not know themselves. Supposedly they appeared mysteriously some months after the Elven Extinction on a Wyarch planet. The Wyarch gave the species a place in space and some basic information related to technology and politics. It is suggested that they either were created by the Wyarch the way many species were, or that the Wyarch uplifted the species, breaking treaties made with the now extinct Elves. In either event, the Wyarch never gave any useful information about the origin of the species, instead using them as a metaphor for galactic peace. Something, ironically, the Formians themselves fight against.

Demography and Population

Formian Birth closely matches Death, as clones are made to mature as individuals reach retirement age.

Territories

Old Wyarch Territory, though they contest many Elven territories which have had Drow pushed out.

Military

Every living member is trained to hunt and kill from birth. Any number of Formians may work together as an advanced pack of hunters. Individuals separated from the Hive's telepathic range often are confused and exist in a dazed nightmare.

Technological Level

The Formians are highly advanced, in game terms, being one TL above the rest of the Galaxy. Their technology is highly sought and primarily sold by Pirates.

Foreign Relations

Current Silent Cold War with Humanoid Space. Open war with Drow. Little relation outside of trade with Laeori. No diplomatic ties to Goblins.

Agriculture & Industry

The dead are recycled for raw food. The species is omnivorous and can subsist of very little nutrients for long periods of time.

Trade & Transport

Massive systems of Solar Highways transport goods in stasis across the reaches of space. These are often intercepted by Pirates, as the goods are often unguarded. This is not a problem for Formians, as they harvest much more raw materials than they require. Like Bees.

Information is shared freely through telepathic Hive-Mind connection.
