Aranwryn

The northernmost continent of Marafel. The frigid mountains in the north protect the forests of the south from the northern wind. This continent was originally inhabited by the Dwarves and Fey. The Dwarves have carved the underside of the entire continent with vast tunnels and glorious cities, while the Fey cultivated the wilds of the Daedenwood on the surface.   Long ago, the Dwarves contested the resource rich earth beneath the Daedenwood with the children of the Fey - the Fay. The war was in the favor of the Dwarves for many years until the Elves adapted to the ways of the underground. This new Elven breed - the Drow, mercilessly raised Dwarven cities and mines until they were forced to retreat into the mountains of the north. They pushed back the Dwarves until their entire race fell in decline. The underdark of Aranwryn is now filled with all kinds of unspeakable evils in the absence of the vast empire of the Dwarves.   More recently, Humans have begun to settle the hills and plains of Aranwryn. They are friendly with the elves of the surface, however the dangers of the Daedenwood and the Underdark both remain. Kingdoms are small, and essentially cover cities and smaller settlements nearby. There is an alliance between each of the cities, unifying them as one. The head of the union also sits on the throne of the largest city in the continent - which is the capitol of the union.
