Old Lake Docks

The Old Lake Docks were built in 1419 on the ParaPoppy Penisula (today the Old Pastel Neighborhood District). This was the original spot the adventurers, lead by priestess Georga Basill, landed when they decided on the location of the new settlement (this was the farthest spot up the Great TurkisBlau river that is safely navigable). A dock was built, first only big enough for six Explorer Age ships, but as more and more people flocked to the new settlement of Gardinya Lyra, the dock was forever too small, and forever being added onto in the most haphazardly of fashions. It seemed like every five to ten years, a part of the dock would be pulled off and rebuilt, but hardly bigger and somehow worse. Every new expansion was done in a different style, with different colored wood, and was somehow built at a weird angle so that the east side of the docks, the dock was too tall for most ships, and on the west side it was too short. Over 58 different construction experts have looked at this dock trying to fix it, but no one has been able to come up with an answer.
By 1650, with the majority of the city now expanded to Seven Flowers Island, a decision was made by the city council to move the majority of import/export business to the new Northern Sunlight Docks. These new docks were built with the larger Iron Age ships in mind. And not only was this dock located in a more strategic position, it also included new port storage facilities that were more than ten time the capacity of the ones at the Lake Docks, and an onsite market for the regulated trading of goods. The storage facility for the Old Lake docks was later expanded and turned into the Rainbow Starlight Energy Plant.
The Old Lake Docks are now more of a historical monument than anything else. There is a large gold sign at the land entrance from the dock, explaining it’s original importance to bringing the city together. While it is still sometimes used to transport larger goods to the peninsula, special ships are now needed (Explorer Age ships are all but a relic of the past) so this is thought of as a bother and more trouble than it’s often worth by most people. The only other use it gets is from the Hyena Gang, and their more than slightly illegal smuggling operation (because the city watch does not patrol around this area as much as it probably should, especially during the day).
