Ring of Cantrips

Ring of Cantrips

Ring, common (requires attunement by a spellcaster)

This ring has 5 charges, and it regains 1d4-1 expended charges daily at dawn. While wearing this ring, you are able to cast a cantrip stored by this ring as an action. The number of cantrips held by this ring varies, but is commonly 3 - 4. Rings that hold more than this are uncommon, but do exist.

If the wearer of one of these rings is able to cast at least one of the cantrips held by the ring, they can charge the ring by casting that spell into the ring in a ritual-like fashion. Such recharging requires approximately five minutes of uninterupted concentration.

Rings of Cantrips are often created by aspiring wizards while in school as part of their training. Sometimes these rings will be sold by the mage college (in an effort to defray the cost of teaching). At other times, those students may trade rings with someone capable of casting cantrips that they cannot. And occasionally, teaching wizards will give such a ring to their apprentice, either as a gift, or as a teaching aid.
Item type
Magical
A Ring of Cantrips can hold a maximum numer of cantrips equal to the value of the gemstone (in gp), divided by 100. Many common rings have a peridot or topaz (500 gp). More powerful rings may have an emerald, opal, or sapphire (1,000 gp) as a central stone. It is possible that a more powerful ring will have more charges, but not more than the number of cantrips it could possibly hold.
