Sunsong and Moonsong

Another one of the strange effects of Mala's strong magnetic field are the Songs. Somehow, the combination of gravity from Mala and its moon, the magnetic field of the planet and light-waves from the Sun, cause the planet to, in a sense, vibrate. This vibration is not heard, felt, or seen, but nevertheless, it is perceived by anyone on the planet. It is described as a rhythm, having no melody nor notes, just a duration within which a set number of beats. The Sunsong is caused by daylight, while the Moonsong is present whenever the Moon is over head.

Manifestation

During the times of their effects, every action with a point in time by which it is said to happen at, is pulled into occurring on one of the beats. Every biological function, every gust of wind, each single event must coincide with the Songs. Beings that have lived their entire live on Mala cannot resist this, and perceive it as a natural part of the universe. Humans and animals that have been taken from Earth and introduced to the Songs often try and resist at first, resulting in physical pain, mental breakdown, and cease of bodily function, and eventually can lead to death. Most often however, individuals pass out from the pain, and during their unconsciousness, their bodies adapt, so when they wake, they are already attuned. Resisting at that point is nearly impossible. Returning to Earth for a length of time, then back to Mala, repeats the whole cycle.

Localization

The Sunsong can only occur when daylight is present. Nighttime and clouds diminish its presence and can, in the dead of night, be completely obscured, nullifying all effects on flora and fauna.
The speed of the beat, the tempo, so to speak, is controlled by the brightness. In times of Silence, when no Songs are playing, any action may be taken at any time; with low levels of sunlight, like that found during the dusk, or through thick clouds, the Sunsong has a very fast tempo, beating many times a second, barely restriction the action times. The more light there is, the slower the tempo becomes, until, at times when the Sun is brightest in a clear sky, it slows roughly once every few seconds. The world seems visibly sluggish, and, at these times, leaves flutter haltingly, wings can't flap fast enough to sustain flight, and heartbeats and breaths slow. The Moonsong has a more erratic beat, being reflected light of the Sun.

Times of Chaos

When the Moon is out on a clear day, both Songs can be felt, the coexistence creating a discordance that disrupts the harmony brought by a single Song.

Physiological Effects

The Feirie are not normally aware of the Songs. They are a natural part of them, like gravity is to humans, which has to be brought to attention, or else, no attention is payed. The Songs seem to regulate the mental speed of the Feirie: slow tempos reduce attention spans, responsiveness and general acuity, while Times of Chaos heighten the latter.
