High Spirits

Makkah Gods

The largest remaining fragments of the Great Spirit, the High Spirits are a class of powerful spirits who rule the world. Each is individual in personality, job, and abilities, but all work together under the same Law to keep the world in the best balance.   The people of the Makkah Nation worship the High Spirits as their gods and consider the Sun Spirit to be the most powerful.

Basic Information

Anatomy

In the physical world High Spirits can take two forms, a human and an animal. How their human form looks is based off their perception of their self.

Genetics and Reproduction

High Spirits can reproduce but do not because of the Law they follow. It wasn't forbidden during the Lawless Cycle but is now because it upsets the world balance so much.   Technically all minor spirits are their "children", just as they are the "offspring" of the Great Spirit. But that's a natural course of being a spirit and the Law doesn't apply to it.

Growth Rate & Stages

When in full power in the physical world, a High Spirit is physically larger and stronger than any human or their animal form's species. They bleed and hurt just the same, but they can take a harder beating and recover twice as quick.

Ecology and Habitats

Most High Spirits spend the majority of their time in the spirit land.

Dietary Needs and Habits

If in full power, High Spirits don't need food in the physical world. The spirit land doesn't have a concept like food. The closest thing to it is probably the prayers and dances performed by humans in the physical world. There's a correlation to the amount of prayers a High Spirit receives and the strength of their power.

Additional Information

Social Structure

There's a ranking system based off a spirit's powers and job.   Highest (sky gods): Sun, Night, and Moon Spirits   Middle (land gods): Grass, Swamp, Mountain (deceased), and Storm Spirits   Low (servant gods): Each high and middle god have one or more personal servants. They're like halfway between a High and minor spirit. They have large pieces of magic like a High Spirit but aren't on the Council and are treated more like minor spirits by humans.   All High Spirits acknowledge the Sun Spirit as their chieftain.

Average Intelligence

High Spirits' intelligence, knowledge, and wisdom far surpass humans or any other species in Rohon. They think and view things differently than humans and have a whole different perspective on time, morality, and purpose that can make it difficult for them to connect/relate to humans and other creatures.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

High Spirits are connected to the physical and spiritual world. It's difficult to be aware of one if they're currently in the other (difficult to focus on the physical world when you're in the spiritual, and vice versa). If in the physical world and want to tune into the spiritual, they can enter a special trance to do so. When in the physical world, their forms often give them extraordinary abilities to sense things regular creatures cannot.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Humans name High Spirits based off what they know about them. For example, the Star Spirit has the nickname of the Star Mare.

Major Organizations

High Spirit Council.   Each one has their own "court" with their minor servant spirits. The Storms Spirit likes to dance and celebrate with his court, and the Grass Spirit has a widespread spy network.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

In the spirit land, the spirit language is pretty much telepathic, at least within the same spirit type. Some High Spirits don't bother to learn local languages in the physical world, and some do.

Common Etiquette Rules

In the spirit world, it's rude to enter someone's nation without the host's permission. Minor spirits require special "permits"--called contracts--but if they have them then most High Spirits don't mind their wandering in and out. Oftentimes a High Spirit will send their personal servant to invite another to each other's nation, or ask to visit, and most personal servants have the long-term contracts to enter and leave as they please--if they're on their chief's business, of course.

Common Taboos

The Law forbids killing another or destroying the world using their spiritual powers

History

Once all things were the Great Spirit. Then the Great Spirit took pieces of their self and Created life and placed them on a world and eventually shattered into many many spirits, some more powerful than others. The High Spirits are the most powerful and rule the world as it is now.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

High Spirits serve as the grassland people's gods.   Grassland horses are the descendants of the Star Mare.   Tricksters and shifters, no-heartbeat creatures, are considered abominations, cursed beasts that defile the physical world, so the High Spirit Council pushes for their extinction. They've proven harder to stomp out than they thought.
