Lake of Avalon

A lake said to be instrumental in the founding of Keoland Kingdom. It is rumored to house all of the souls of Keoland's previous kings and the domain of a benevolent Archfey known only as Lady Avalon in the earliest texts. The lake is also claimed to have other mythological and supernatural properties such as healing mortal wounds and serving as a portal to the Feywild.   Further records reveal an accompanying prophecy that is hypothesized to explain the success in founding the Kingdom and High King Artorius Rex's rule. The myth being as follows:
"In Keo's darkest hour, a platinum dragon shall rise in the west and do battle with the red dragon of the east. The clash shall forever shape the lands, freeing the people from the evils previously invited, and ushering a new age."

Historical Basis

There are numerous texts about the legend of the Lake of Avalon and its conjoined prophecy, and the fact it is deeply tied to the series of heavily recorded events that lead to the foundation of the Keoland Kingdom give the myths credit among scholars.   The notion is also further given plausibility by mages of the Kingdom. With little discrepancies in both recorded history and arcane history, the only major argument against its existence is the lack of detailed geographical descriptors leading to many different theories as to where the lake could have been located if it exists at all.

Spread

The tale of the Lake of Avalon is well known and told to almost every child of the Kingdom. Myth or fact, it doesn't typically concern people as the legend serves more as an inspirational motif than anything. The romance of a young commoner rising up to become king of a great nation, is a message loud and clear to the people that its continued existence is worth investing in.

Excerpt from Keoland's earliest poem, "The King's Blade."

"I caution thee...
for once the blade is free from its prison,
in the hopes of thy people be risen,

the boy before thou in the reflection,
shall be forever changed by the Sword of Selection.

Bear witness, for a King has been christen."
-Lady Avalon.
