Swamp den

Swamp dens are referring to the quite elborate dens created by the lizardfolk living in the swamps of the world. These vary in size from small huts to larger multiple storey high dens.

Purpose / Function

Every creature capable of civilization has throughout the times created shelter, lizardfolks of the swamps create small huts out of the surrounding branches, vegetation and bones. The smaller huts server as shelter for the lonely lizard, while bigger huts are build by the male patriarch of the family. Even specified buildings such as slaughter huts are build among others for growing plants and general crafting. Some bigger dens are build up to four storeys high for larger families and more important lizardfolk of the tribe.

Architecture

All huts are mainly comprised of strong relatively new wood, these wooden pillars are being held together by hair, sinew and woven plant materials. Some very large bones also sees the use instead of wood if available, commonly after a great beast has been slain by the tribe. Mostly bones are used for crafts and not much in building architecture, other than decoration and the aforementioned pillars. Plant materials serve their purpose too, woven and precisely arranged leafy branches keep out rain, even in a moderate gale. all materials used from wood, to bone to plant materials are replaced once they show any signs of decay. The multiple storey dens are constructed out of the strongest and tallest trees found in the swamp, only the best materials are used out of respect for the head of the tribe.
Defensive buildings such as walls are also mainly build out of wood, sharp protrusions made of bones makes the walls a great passive defense against enemies of the tribes. Additionally guard towers has the same protrusions and serve as a great advantage to the defender, these towers are often as high as the tallest den.
