The Ayirians

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Intelligence is viewed very highly in Ayirian culture, with physical strength being seen as meaningless without a strong brain to guide it.

Average technological level

Steel is fairly common in Ayira, with iron being even more so.

Common Dress code

Men generally wear woolen clothing, with richer men being able to afford cotton or even silk, showing off their wealth. Women wear dresses made from wool, with richer women wearing silk dresses.

Art & Architecture

Arches were invented by Ayirian architects, and are a staple of Ayirian building to this day. Marble, stone, and wood are commonly used in building, with ordinary buildings usually being built in a rectangular fashion.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

The Fast of the Dead is celebrated in Ayira, as well as in the old lands of Eacil (see Eacilian culture for more). However, the Ayirians have twisted the holiday slightly to also include those who died defending Ayira from the Yezic hordes to the east. The Festival of the Maker is a widely celebrated holiday in northern Ayira as well, with games, food, songs, and charity being done on the four days of celebration. King's Day is another holiday, which celebrates the kings of Ayira using songs of praise, military parades, and picnics.

Coming of Age Rites

When an individual comes of age, they sign their name into their town's Book of Names, a record of everyone who has ever lived inside of that city.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Upon death, a person is burned upon a funeral pyre, and their ashes are stored in a family burial tomb.

Ideals

Gender Ideals

Men and women are seen as equals in Ayira as both Eacilian and Yezi culture has influenced them. Either sex can play any role in society.
