Helenīism

Helenīism

Helenīism is the dominant religion on the continent Jeleb. It was created as the ancient Southen Empire grew north along the Bay of Felitem. It was first practiced in a city called Helenī. Helenī is now a large ruin partially sunk into the Bay of Felitem as it was built on an eroding cliff. Even though it is in ruin, the city's shrines and temples are still largely intact. This makes the city a place of pilgrimage to Helenists.

Basic Principles

The Three Ways of Life
  • Pelūālē
  • Līma ī Kastūn Hālal Lēyūh
  • Līēn Atōlamī
Pelūālē: The main belief of Helenīism is that one day, Sehtkalī, which is Helenīism's god, will save them from the sinful world they live in. This belief is called Pelūālē. Pelūālē comes from the word pelū, meaning "high" and hālē, meaning "help". So literally Pelūālē means "high help", but it basically means and is used as in religious texts to mean salvation.   Līma ī Kastūn Hālal Lēyūh: The second belief of Helenīism is Līma ī Kastūn Hālal Lēyūh, which means "love and respect your family". Family is used in two different ways in Helenīism, it can be used to describe your family, like your dad and mom, or it can be used to describe your entire village. The first meaning is more common in large cities, for example, Imnal, and the second meaning is more common in small towns and villages.   Līēn Atōlamī: The third belief of Helenīism is Līēn Atōlamī, which means to have a pure heart or to be free of sin. And in the event you do sin, you reach out for forgiveness for that sin, otherwise, Sehtkalī will not judge your soul kindly and allow you to enter Pelūēōmū. Pelūēōmū being Helenīism's form of Heaven.

Worship and Prayer

Helenists join together on the first day of the week at a temple from sunrise to noon where they read the Ābūgāb, perform rituals, such as cleansing the soul of sins and do group prayer sessions. Although, prayer is usually done once at the beginning of the day and once at noon. After noon there are preachers who stay at the temples and lead private prayer sessions if you need extra guidance or support.

The Story

Very old texts written on stone describe a man coming to Southen via ship. He was the only one on the boat and he didn't speak the language. A year after his arrival, he became fluent in the language and began to preach about a set of beliefs. These are the Three Ways of Life of Helenīism. He stayed in Southen for a long time until the locals started to despise him. It was mainly the higher-class citizens because the man would tell the people that they should be treated the same as the rich. He was eventually thrown out of the city into the vast wilderness. He vaguely knew that the Empire stretched north along the Bay of Felitem, so that is where he went. He went from city to city spreading his beliefs. In some areas, it was starting to catch on. People started to document what this strange man was saying, and they followed his teachings. His final stop was Helenī. At this time, Helenī was a very small village; maybe a couple of hundred people or so. He spent five years in this village, or the rest of his life. He started to form the village around his ideas and when he died, they continued to practice this religion. The religion was named Helenīism after the town. Never did the man mention who he was or where he came from, all we know is that he showed up and created one of the biggest religions in the world.
