The City of Weeping Skies

Written by The Giver of Bad Times

You walk through the blue-tinted urban landscape. Great rectangles of glass and stone loom above you, but you don't find them intimidating. You've started to find comfort in their uneven outline ridging the horizon. Beyond that, the skies, as always, are still crying up above. You take your time walking home. You're not in a hurry.     You stand on the roof of your apartment building, looking over the city. You feel calm up here, the skies storming above your head. You undo your tight french braid, letting your hair spill down your back. You turn around and lean over the edge, your back to the railing, your face to the sky. You breathe in the cool, humid air. The rain falls gently on your face. You hear its pitter-patter song on the roofs, the quiet murmur of people walking in the streets, the birds chirping as they shake the water off their feathers. You've grown to love the City of Weeping Skies. This is your happy place. This is your home.

Demographics

A widely varied mixing pot of many different races, species, ethnicities, and professions.

Infrastructure

The architecture here doesn't look like much at first glance, but due to the eternal rain, this city has single-handedly pioneered effective storm drain systems, weatherproof building materials, and flood prevention for Madjickaa as a whole. One of the (many) secrets to their architecture is that their concrete actually utilizes volcanic ash imported from the Ashen Fields West of Mount Ingenious. Normally, water is known to absolutely destroy concrete. However, prolonged exposure to water actually causes the ash to crystallize, causing otherwise porous concrete to turn into a solid slab of rock. This geological insanity provides weatherproofing to the buildings in the City of Weeping Skies, while also giving the few small settlements in the Ashen Fields with somewhere to safely dispose of their egregious amounts of rather dangerous volcanic ash. Win-win.

Points of interest

Somehow, through unknown means, it is eternally raining here. It's not a constant torrential downpour, but it has led to a favoritism toward indoor activities.

Tourism

Although tourism isn't the City's main focus, there are many places for tourists and residents alike to spend their time, with things like The Museum of Art and Architecture, the Aktour Theater, and The Rose Casino all being quite popular.

Architecture

Think New York. (I don't care if I have to break the fourth wall for this one, I'm not going into that much detail for something I can sum up in three words)

Natural Resources

Fun fact: constant rain does not, in fact, lead to a place with a ton of natural resources, as most of them can either be overwatered or weathered away. (Most of them are imported, and can't naturally be found here.)
