Faerie (FAY-ree)

You hear an ominous giggle as you trudge through the dense forest. Once again, your next turn takes you back to where you started, though you're sure you took a left turn, then two rights, then a left again, and shouldn't have gone in a circle. How many times has this happened to you now? Five? Ten? Fifty? With every step, it seems as if your senses deceive you. Your trails of string and breadcrumbs keep dissapearing. The trees and stones you mark never reappear. With a looming sense of dread, you start to wonder if you'll ever escape these woods alive.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Faerie look mostly humanoid, more or less, with slightly elfish features and a petite build. Their appearance tends to reflect the natural environment they are from (for example, they might have very pale, blue-tinted features if they're from a particularly cold biome, a tawny and/or beige color scheme if they're from a sandy desert, etc.). Some have wings, although most do not, and they tend to be a few inches shorter than the average human.

Ecology and Habitats

Faerie thrive in undeveloped, untamed, wild environments. Their life force is tied to the Wild Place they inhabit, and they will do anything to keep humans and other such species out of them. They can be found in almost any environment, so long as it remains untouched and undeveloped, from the coldest snowfield, to the driest desert, to the densest rainforest, and everything in between.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They don't really have much in the way of a social structure. Sadly, most of the remaining Wild Places are too small for more than one Faerie. In the rare case of a Wild Place being large enough to support multiple Faerie, they treat one another as mutual acquaintances, possibly friends, and always equals.

Facial characteristics

Very childlike proportions, with small noses and pointed ears.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Any of the remaining Wild Places that dot the lands of Madjickaa.

Average Intelligence

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Faerie have a very close connection to nature, and are able to feel when something about their environment is off, along with being able to somewhat stimulate plant growth, depending on what specific type of Faerie they are.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

They tend not to have names, as most live in isolation, save for the flora and fauna that inhabit their Wild Place.

Average Technological Level

They live off, and often with, the land, and any items they might have would likely be made using whatever materials are readily availible to them (not including any animal parts. Never including any animal parts.).

Common Taboos

Killing anything, plant or animal, and willingly giving up their Wild Place, or not acting when it is threatened, are both fundamental taboos for the Faerie, and are held in high regard as the closest thing they have to laws.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

They aren't the biggest fans of Humans and other such species that develop and push out the Wild, and will go to extreme lengths to keep them away from the remaining Wild Places.
