Mälaren Islands

Ten years ago, they arrived and our bucolic islands were changed forever. Into our idyllic and quiet life burst Riksenergi, looking to build an enormous scientific experiment right beneath our feet - the particle accelerator. Competing with similar endeavours in the Cold War Block countries, Sweden wanted to make sure they were not left behind. Or so my parents tell me.
It is 1984 and I still go to Middle School. As far as I can tell, the Loop has been good for us. A lot of parents work on running the infrastructure or in research and what was a quiet retreat about an hour from Stockholm has become full of mysterious goings-on. Those boffins seem to get up to all sorts of "creative thinking" and for us kids, it is great to stumble over the remains of their abandoned experiments.
It's all fun and games, until someone loses an eye, right? Well, luckily the serious mishaps are few and far between. Or are they just covered up well?
