Lyth

Created by

A group of recently fractured continents, home to cultures of Anglo-Saxon/Viking/Celtic varieties. The world is named 'Lyth' after a commonly held belief by the Mahgon cultures that 'Lyth' is a sentient embodiment of the universe and the Goddesses are its daughters. Lyth is made up of the central island continent, Mahgon, the Northern wilderness known as The Old Lands, and the Southern expanse from which the Aethele derive, mostly unknown to the people of the North.   Records of the history of Lyth and Mahgon only goes back as far as Year 87, but there is some evidence of previous civilisations that died out or migrated before the arrival of Humans, Elfin and Orcs. The Aethele are the oldest race of people on Lyth, with Orcs being the youngest. Elfin are a subrace of Aethele, and Humans share an evolutionary ancestor with Orcs.   Demons inhabit Lyth, primarily populating the very North of the world and are only seen in The Old Lands, for the most part. The origin of Demons are unknown, though all of the varieties are considered to share a common ancestor. Orcs are a result of proto-human clans intermixing and mating with humanoid Demons, creating the various and colourful ethnicities of Orcs, who have diverged far from their ancestors in terms of appearance and mentality.   Magic exists in this Universe, though no one knows where it originates from. There are schools of study dedicated to discovering this, but every culture has a different explanation. For instance, Mahgon Humans believe that natural, inborn supernatural abilities are distinctly separate from magic that can be taught (the former being a gift from the Goddesses and the latter being an improvable skill).
