Cult of the Dust Mother

The Cult of the Dust Mother is a religious group formed mostly by dune elves and some other people inhabiting the deserts of Mozima who follow the deity figure of the same name as the cult.

The Dust Mother

The Dust Mother, also known as Lady of Sandstorms, Caretaker of the Sands or just as the Wind of Rami, is depicted as a woman wearing a mask made of bone with a moving cloak made of shifting sandstorms. It is said that the Dust Mother is quiet and doesn't interact directly with her followers, but she communicates with signs in the sky, the sands and the rocks, always looking to guide and protect her children.
The legends tells that she first appeared to a lost group of elves in the Rami Desert, these being the ancestors of the dune elves. She guide them to a safe zone now known as The Labyrinth, where they establish the first temple of the Mother, a place where their society grew and became the town of Khalavo. Many more temples and places of worship have been created across all the Rami Desert, some of them with priests of the Mother always around while others only visited and taken care of during the dune elves migrations.

The Cult

The dune elves lead the cult and make most of it, but some other followers have appeared over the years outside the Elven tribes: People surviving the desert by miracle or saved by elven travellers, spiritual people learning from the elves during their migrations or just people looking for protection during voyages in the Rami Desert.
The head of the cult are the Dust Walkers. Priests that have proved their fate through difficult rituals performed in the middle of the desert. The ones who endure the hardship of the test are watched as blessed by the Mother, earning their place as a Dust Walkers and a leader of the tribe. An elf who wants to be a Dust Walkers must first learn the history and traditions of the dune elves, to be able to preserve them if they become a leader of the tribe, they also learn how to travel the eternal dunes of the Rami, read the stars, make medicines and apply first aids as well as trading and leadership.
